Belgorod-Dniester - the oldest city in Ukraine, and one of the oldest in Europe. It arose in the VI century BC. During this time the city was inhabited by various tribes and nations, each of them called it their own way: Tyre, Ofiussa, Alba Iulia, Belgorod, Feger Var, Ak-Or Mont-Castro, Chetate-Alba. Before our time has come for more than two dozen names of cities, but all of them, one way or another, been translated into Russian as White City, White Castle.
Historical sources indicate that founded the city on the right bank of the Dniester River came from the ancient Greek polis of Miletus. Calling Dniester Tiraspol, the Greeks called the city Tiroy.
Belgorod in the XV century - is one of the major European cities with a population of 20,000 people. At the same time built a huge stone castle, the stately form of which was under a capital of a mighty state. The scale of the structure allowed the attack to protect the inhabitants of the city.
In 1812, Ackerman became a member of the Russian Empire. It began its intensive population of fugitive Russian, Jews, Poles. By the end of XIX century there have lived about 50 thousand.
Today, Belgorod-Dniester - the administrative center of regional subordination, which is located in the southwestern part of the Odessa region on the right bank of the Dniester estuary, 20 km from the Black Sea and 90 km from Odessa.
